Denise was born in the lil' ol' town of Kingsville, Texas. Six months later she moved with her family north to Bay City, Texas. After graduating high school there in 1980, she moved on to San Marcos, Texas, where she studied Theater Arts at Southwest Texas State University. In 1984 she earned her BFA, then set out with her new found knowledge and applied it as a
Flight Attendant!
Naturally, it wasn't too long before her urge for the arts became over-powering, so she pursued work in the Motion Picture Industry, in her new hometown, Denver, Colorado. Working as a location assistant on The Father Dowling Mysteries, Denise became interested in on-set production and management, namely in the Assistant Directing or AD department. Working on numerous small budget (financially challenged) shows, to gather the necessary days it takes to join the Directors' Guild of America, she became a member of the DGA in 1993. Since then she has worked on big budget, DGA signatory, motion pictures.
Now that she has established herself as a seasoned and hard-working Assistant Director, Denise wants more. She says, "As an A.D. you're often given full responsibility and almost no authority." She believes it's time for a new professional quest: to produce her own financially challenged film projects.
Denise admits that producing is no walk in the park, but as a producer: At least I have the know-how and authority to save precious dollars, while still maintaining an efficient and first-rate production team capable of producing high-quality films at a lower budget cost.
